Vladimir Putin takes off the ‘Mask of Sanity’

By Dr. David Bernstein | April 7th, 2022

For the past six weeks, we have experienced shock and horror at the savagery that Vladimir Putin has unleashed on Ukraine.  And yet, with each new act of terror, we still seem surprised at his capacity for ruthless, wanton destruction. In fact, many commentators have expressed surprise that Putin, who had previously been so careful and measured in his aggression towards the West – choosing targets, such as Georgia, Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk, that were calibrated to avoid a Western response – would now engage in a brazen assault on the whole of Ukraine. However, we can explain this seemingly uncharacteristic behavior when we consider that Putin appears to be a psychopath. You can read the full post here.

“SafePath is a gentle
nutcracker”

By Dr. David Bernstein | March 29th, 2022

“SafePath is a gentle nutcracker”. Welcome to the inaugural article in our series, “SafePath Stories,” featuring colleagues who are implementing SafePath around the world. This month’s article features Roel de Bruin, methodology coach at the Juvenile Prison (Rijks Justitiële Jeugdinrichting), Den Hey-Acker. In the Netherlands, youth who are convicted of serious crimes are committed to one of five juvenile prisons, where they receive treatment. All of these institutions have implemented SafePath in their treatment teams. Thanks to Roel for sharing his SafePath story with us, and to psychologist and writer Dr. Ingrid Candel for bringing Roel’s story to life! You can read the full story here.

“The SafePath Institute”

By Dr. David Bernstein | March 22nd, 2022

I am very proud to announce that we are launching the SafePath Institute! The Institute is dedicated to creating stronger teams and safer, more therapeutic environments in psychiatric and forensic hospitals, prisons, addiction centers, and community outreach programs. Here on our new website, you can see our full offering of SafePath courses in English and Dutch for 2022. You’ll find lots of new content here, including the inaugural article in our series, “SafePath Stories,” featuring interviews with colleagues who are implementing SafePath around the world. The launching of the Institute marks the transition from the days, starting in 2011, when I traveled around the Netherlands training teams on my own. Now, we disseminate SafePath primarily through a train-the-trainers model. Candidates take an online 28-hour, 8-session course preparing them to become SafePath trainers/coaches within their organizations. We provide all of the support to help organizations become self-sufficient in providing high-quality SafePath practice. Explore our website and learn more about what SafePath can mean to your teams, clients, and organization!
